A Thousand Splendid Suns

Image
A wonderfully written tale of tragedy and the endurance of love for one's family members. I did not know how deep love could run, especially when laced with such extreme circumstances and incredible cruelty, and I'm so very grateful for what this tale has taught me about the human spirit and the lives of those of whom I'll never know. This tale surrounding historical events in Afghanistan is superbly written and conveys such a deep degree of emotion that I found myself several times wracked with sadness that has now and will forever leave its mark upon my heart, as it goes out to the people who have had to, and still do, endure pure acts of evil that are unfathomable to me. Aziza's character will now always be with me, because I was born in the same year as she was, and it was harrowing to think about how incredibly different our lives were from each other. They were parallel in many ways, but worlds apart in the end, and I'm pained to think of how my life would b...

Sacred Games : Netflix

Sacred Games is the premiere Hindi Netflix series in India. Produced by Phantom production who are known to invest in edgy stories.Based on the 1000 page Vikram Chandra novel by the same name. The story is, for the large part, set in Bombay/ Mumbai and revolves around the lives of Ganesh Gaitonde played by Nawzuddin Siddiqui, a peculiar O.G, and Sartaj Singh played by Saif Ali Khan, a low rank moral police officer stuck in an amoral department. The show runs parallel stories of the past of Gaitonde and present of Satraj. As it is set in Mumbai themes of gangs, corruption, Bollywood conspiracies, drugs, crime, immigration, Muslim ghettoisation, communalism and Indian post liberalisation politics plants a foot of the show in reality yet as the name suggests the show also has a Indian mythical bent. Where each title, story telling and apoclaiptic plot has a theological aspect to it.Season 1 released in 2018 has been critically and popularly appreciated for its thriller element, cool dia...

The Song of Achilles: A Novel Must Read

Image
As most of us know, it was not uncommon in Ancient Greek life for older men to have sexual relationships with younger men. Homosexual relationships between men of the same age, however, were rarer. When I was taught The Iliad, even in college, the bond between Patroclus and Achilles was usually described as just a deep friendship (lip service was paid to the idea they could have been lovers but it was never taught as being the more persuasive interpretation). Miller's novel, however, roots itself in the alternate interpretation: she presents us with Achilles, the most gifted warrior in Greece, as a man in a loving and stable lifelong relationship with Patroclus. It would actually be more accurate to say she presents us with Patroclus as the romantic partner of Achilles: the story belongs to Patroclus, it is told through his eyes. Patroclus as created by Miller is a gentle soul, a disappointment to his aggressive father, who is banished when he kills another child purely by accid...

Image
The  Galaxy S10+ will likely to be the first one .  The new 1TB eUFS chip is just as big as the previous 512GB chip (11.5 x 13mm) while holding double the storage capacity by combining 16 stacked V-NAND flash memory layers and a newly developed  Long-time Samsung insider Ice Universe also said that the new 1TB UFS 2.1 flash memory module would be used in the top version of the Galaxy S10+. Samsung explained in its   press release   that not the 1TB module comes with “exceptional speed, allowing users to transfer large amounts of multimedia content in significantly reduced time.” The module delivers twice the sequential read speeds of a typical 2.5 inch SATA SSD drive, which is impressive. How To Increase Your Facebook Page Reach

Image
What is organic reach on Facebook Organic reach refers to how many people you can reach for free on Facebook by posting to your Page. Why Facebook Organic Reach Is Declining The first reason involves a simple fact: More and more content is being created and shared every day. You’ve probably felt this change yourself. More content is being published than there is news feed space for it to be shown. There are more than 30 billion pieces of content published every month on Facebook.  Just a few years ago, sharing important moments and experiences, articles you’ve read, and photos and videos of your loved ones was a relatively labor-intensive process. Facebook's news feed algorithm Facebook provides only the most relevant content to each user. In order to increase engagement and optimize user experience, the content shown is tailored to each user’s individual interests. Today, thanks to devices like smartphones, many people can share this content with just a few swipes of the finger or...

How to Make Mobile Games and How do I Get Started?

Image
Game Development is the art of creating games and describes the design, development and release of a game. It may involve concept generation, design, build, test and release. In this article, I’ll explain how game development differs from app development, describe how to get started making your own games, and provide some pieces of advice on what to watch out for when taking the leap.  If you’re a developer who wants to get into games, you may think that there are big differences between game and app development. But it’s important to realize that the majority of the work in each type of development is similar. Day to day as a game programmer, you’re mostly just working in code, solving problems—that’s the same thing you do when you’re building business apps. Pick a Simple Game to Practice While you create a game, it is important to think about the game mechanics, rewards, player engagement and level design. A game developer could be a programmer, a sound designer, an artist,...

The Kite Runner : A Book You Should Read

Image
There are a lot of children in Afghanistan, but little childhood The Kite Runner tells the story of Amir, the son of a wealthy Afghan and member of the ruling caste of Pashtuns. Amir’s companion as a child was his servant Hassan, from the despised and impoverished Hazara caste. Their bond is torn by Amir’s choice to abandon his friend amidst the increasing ethnic, religious and political tensions of the dying years of the Afghan monarchy. Despite escaping from troubles in his motherland, Amir will have to return to right past wrongs against the only true friend he ever had. The comradeship between an affluent boy and the son of his father’s servant takes centre stage in the early stages of The Kite Runner, a novel set in a country that is in the process of being destroyed. "For you, a thousand times over." This was the second time I read The Kite Runner and I wasn't disappointed - nope, not at all. The Kite Runner is one book that has stayed close with me every time I hav...

Oryx and Crake (The MaddAddam Trilogy) - Novel that has boost the enthusiasm

Image
This novel, the first in Margaret Atwood's dystopian trilogy, is a fascinating, dark and thought-provoking ride. Perhaps overshadowing the story itself, Atwood's world forces the reader into tremendous moral reflection. We are made to question the nature of exploitation, the meaning of social consent and whether effort for the greater good can ever be divorced from emotional self-interest. In terms of bigger picture message, if not story, the first book reminds me of Hugh Howey's mesmerizing Wool series. The story centers around Jimmy, also called Snowman, assumed to be the lone survivor of a plague that destroyed humanity. His companions are Crakers: a society of unworldly humanoid experiments designed to eliminate the perceived flaws of normal homo sapiens. The Crakers see Snowman as a relic and link to the "before" times as well as their source of knowledge about their creator, Crake. Jimmy has given the Crakers an origin story, that while false, is something h...
